One of the most critical aspects of delivering a speech is to engage your entire audience whilst building rapport - to make each person feel like you are actually talking to them. It means paying attention to what is happing around the room whilst you are talking.

Time and time again, I have seen presenters lose the attention of their audience by focusing on just one person when they speak and not utilising the space of the room from a visual and sensory point of view.  It only takes a couple of disinterested and restless people in your audience to disrupt the concentration of the others, however more importantly, your concentration and delivery. Knowing how to capture their focus and interest plus engage them again, is essential for achieving a great outcome.
